Scaling up its Water Sanitation measures: IRCS providing water in flood affected Odisha

As rains continue to victimize the people of Odisha, the Indian Red Cross Society has scaled up its relief measures. A total of 6 water sanitation units have been mobilized to supply clean water to the affected residents, of which 4 units have the capacity of providing 2000 litres of potable water per hour and 2 units have the capacity of providing 80 litres of water per hour. Cyclone Phailin: Indian Red Cross providing Relief to the displaced.
It was the fateful evening of 12th October, 2013 when winds gushing upto a speed of 220 kmph raked up Cyclone Phailin and hit the coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The devastation could have been massive but for the Indian Meteorological departments early and sound predictions which prompted the Indian government to evacuate nearly 90,00,000 people.

An Earthquake measuring magnitude 9.0(revised from 8.9) hit Japan on 11th March 2011. The earthquake caused extensive human casualty as well as infrastructure damage in many areas.
