An Update on Indian Red Cross Action to Flood Fury

As the flood condition in affected States of India continues to cause concern the Indian Red Cross is actively providing relief items to the flood victims.
In Gujarat State, the flood situation is improving with water receding in affected areas and life gradually returning to normalcy. The State Branch has completed distribution of the relief items such as dhotis, sarees, kitchen sets, bed sheets, cotton towels and cotton blankets 2500 pieces each, total amounting to Rs. 19,00,000. Further, Rs. 2 lakh has been sanctioned by the National Headquarters for purchase of Chlorine tablets and bleaching powder. One water sanitation unit is ready for departure from Chennai and other two will be send from Trichi before August 15th, 2006.
In the State of Andhra Pradesh, National Headquarter released the relief items such as bed sheets, dhotis, sarees, kitchen sets and towels 1000 pieces each, which are being distributed, and the total amounts to Rs. 6,00,000. On request from State Branch Rs. 2 lakh has been sanctioned by the National Headquarters for purchase of Chlorine tablets and bleaching powder.
For Bihar State, the National Headquarter released dhotis, sarees, kitchen sets, bed sheets, cotton towels and cotton blankets 2500 pieces each, total amounting to Rs. 18,00,000.
In the State of Chattisgarh, the flood situation continues to be grim. The NHQ has released items from Salt Lake warehouse such as kitchen sets, sarees, cotton blankets, woolen blankets, dhotis, buckets and towels 1500 pieces each, total amounting to Rs. 11,32,500.
The National Headquarter, IRCS is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant touch with the respective State branches of the flood affected States. |
