Red Cross Blood for Train Accident Victims

Indian Red Cross Society, National Headquarters Blood Bank in Delhi provided 200 units of blood to assist Meerut Medical College Hospital where majority of the injured patients are being treated. Dr Vanshree Singh, Director of the Red Cross Blood Bank said, “We approached the Meerut Medical College to offer our services and they requested for urgent supply of blood. Initially, 200 units of blood have been released.” She added that additional staff has been requisitioned so that about 300 units of blood that has been collected and brought from blood camps today is tested and kept ready for requirements, if any, by the medical college hospital.

At least 23 people died and more than 75 others were injured when 14 coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli, around 40kms from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu has assured he is personally monitoring the situation and has ordered an inquiry into it.
