“Volunteers are the first responders during crises”, is what the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) believes and is reflected in the RCRC Movement as a whole.
The IRCS, national headquarters celebrated the IVD 2017 by participating in the event organized by the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on December 05, 2017. This event provided an opportunity to an IRCS volunteer to come and share his experiences.
Mr Chanam Lanaobi Singh, an IRCS volunteer from Manipur, was selected by the headquarters to represent the Society at the event. Mr Singh has been a short film maker on social issues. He was introduced to the Red Cross by one of his friends. Gradually he too got involved in the Red Cross programmes and projects. Now, every afternoon, he comes to the Red Cross office and at times visits the fields too, to assist in Red Cross work.
“Chanam Lanaobi Singh, the IRCS volunteer was quite touched with the event and said, “I am very proud to be a RC volunteer and help others in my community. The happiness I see in the eyes of the beneficiaries is the biggest reward I can get as a volunteer.”
