Red Cross Chandigarh UT Branch will construct and run a “Sarai” in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh. The land for the Sarai has been donated by PGIMER. Infosys will support the IRCS with fund support of approximately Rs 12 crore.
Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the sarai on 9 September 2016, in the presence of Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore, among others.
On this occasion the Vice Chairman of the Managing Body of IRCS National Headquarters, Shri Avinash Rai Khanna said, “PGIMER caters to patients from different parts of the country. To facilitate economical and comfortable stay of the patients and their attendants, the ‘sarai’ is being constructed by the Indian Red Cross Society, Chandigarh UT branch. Shri Khanna also thanked Infosys for the generosity and appealed to the corporate world, both Indian and multi-national, to emulate this gesture and help IRCS in its humanitarian work.
