In the month of June, 2016 Dansai block in Tehri district witnessed cloudburst. The resultant downpour triggered landslides affecting normal life in the area. The branch reported death of 06 people, injuries to many and loss of property and livestock. IRCS Uttarakhand state branch distributed relief material in the affected villages. Indian Red Cross Society, NHQ also supplemented their efforts with the dispatch of 200 family packs for distribution among affected people.
Again, since July 1, 2016 incessant and heavy rainfalls are continuing in the region resulting in to massive landslides and flash floods. The DDMA Uttarakhand has reported that 38 people have so far lost their lives in Pithoragarh and Chamoli and many are still reported missing. DP Supervisor of the state branch and the First Medical Responders (FMRs) visited the landslide affected areas. The state branch sent relief to the Pithoragarh and Chamoli for the affected population. The state branch has also alerted the district branches and the First Medical Responders in all the ten districts. IRCS, NHQ further dispatched 1000 woolen blankets for distribution to the affected people in the region.

The state branch has also informed that Red Cross tents are being used at Disaster Relief Camps set up at Government Inter College Singali, tehsil Didihat in Pithoragarh district. It has also been informed by the Honorary Secretary Uttarakhand State Branch that Indian Red Cross Society was the first organization to supply the relief items to the affected people. The IFRC, DMIS (Disaster Management Information System) has been updated. The Uttrakhand state branch is in regular contact with SDMA as the hill state is expecting more heavy showers.
