Indian Red Cross Society together with the IFRC and the Australian Red Cross is conducting a baseline survey in 3 districts of Odisha, namely Nayagarh, Gajapati and Ganjam. The survey is broadly designed to assess needs of menstrual hygiene, household water treatment and hand washing. The Australian Red Cross consultant, Annika Kearton, who especially came for this activity, was joined by Ms Rina Tripathi of IRCS and Ms Meenu Bali of IFRC to train 18 volunteers, (4 females and 14 males) for doing this assessment. This is likely to be concluded by 20 June 2017. The baseline data is now being collected using magpie need assessment survey tool on the tablets provided to volunteers for this task. The volunteers will also be taught data analysis and reporting to feed this in WASH program planning. Joint Secretary Odisha State Branch inaugurated the pilot Magpi WASH Need Assessment and Survey programme in IRCS Odisha state branch on 12 June.
