Volunteering is at the heart of the Red Cross Movement. It is the force of the Red Cross volunteers that makes helping possible. In its continuous endeavour to add to the already growing numbers, the Indian Red Cross undertakes training of youth and junior Red Crossers, through its National Headquarter. It is the vision of the society to instil the spirit of service to humankind in as many young minds as possible.

The Indian Red Cross Society routinely trains students of BITS (Pilani), IIT, various streams of the Delhi University and of the Law Faculty (DU). In the last one year the National Headquarters has trained close to 150 volunteers. IRCS also trains Junior volunteers of senior secondary from various schools like DPS (R K Puram) and Sanskriti. |
These young hands get a first-hand experience in helping with various activities of the Blood Donation camps like donors during pre and post counselling, publicity distribution for retaining and increasing the donor base, internal documentation and maintenance of records during the camps and designing of IEC material for blood donation drives.
Apart from activities related to blood donations, these professionals help the National Headquarters in software development for mapping of state branches, FMR database microsite, history of the Red Cross Movement, cataloguing of the library documents and developing projects for increasing the financial viability of the organization. |

The Indian Red Cross Society (National Headquarter) also trains technical students of YMCA and other institutes in laboratory related work and other aspects of the Blood Bank. These students in turn work as volunteers for the IRCS and specially help during the Dengue season (August till December), when requirement of blood reaches its peak. These enthusiastic students are more than happy to be of help, coming to work as volunteers at the National Headquarter after their everyday academic classes at 2 pm.
