SG, IRCS Conferred Degree of Doctor of Science
New Delhii, 8th March, 2007

Dr. S.P. Agarwal, Secretary General, Indian Red Cross Society, National Headquarters, New Delhii (Former Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India) has been conferred upon the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) in the 56th Annual convocation of Panjab University held on 7th March 2007 at 04:00 PM in the Gymnasium Hall on the University Campus. His Excellency, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, President of India, delivered the convocation address.

Dr. Agarwal, an eminent neuro–surgeon, had been earlier decorated with life time achievement award at National Conference of Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, 2005, Dr. B.C. Roy National Award for the ‘Eminent Medical Person', 2002 and Invention awards on different occasions, such as Gold Medal at International Exhibition of Inventions, West Germany. He has also been a prolific writer who has authored many scientific articles and books. He has been a guest orator in scientific seminars and colloquiums.

As the Secretary General of the Indian Red Cross Society his recent, initiatives like the start of a “one year post graduate diploma course in Disaster Preparedness and Rehabilitation affiliated to GGS IP University”, “Donate 100 hours of your time in a year for voluntary social service and “Indian Red Cross Non Emergency Ambulance Service” among others, have been highly appreciated.
