French Red Cross President visits the National Headquarters

Prof. Jean-Francois Mattei, President of the French Red Cross  (FRC) Society with his entourage visited the National Headquarters, IRCS.

On December 8th 2007 he addressed the students of Post Graduate Diploma Course in Disaster Preparedness and Rehabilitation at DMC and on December 11th, 2007 he had a joint meeting with the officials of PNS, Federation and IRCS.

While introducing Prof. Mattei to the officials, Prof (Dr) S.P. Agarwal, ecretary General, IRCS informed that he was the former Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Disability and an academician having a background in genetics. The Secretary General informed the distinguished visitor about the HIV/AIDS Red Cross India Consortium and the progress made in the HIV/AIDS programme. Other health & care and disaster management programmes and IRCS new initiatives were also discussed.
Prof. Mattei said that the French Red Cross has a back up of 16,000 employees and 50, 000 volunteers. It has bilateral cooperation in about 45 countries and is running 250 programmes (half for the tsunami affected countries). He further said that IRCS and FRC share certain commonalities in its programme and activities. All we need is to come together and address the vulnerable communities.

The discussions during the meeting were fruitful, as it would strengthen the relations between the two National Societies.
