Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare today honoured 8 centurian blood donors and two partner organizations that help the Society in blood collection. While thanking the blood donors all over the country on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, he urged, especially the young persons, for repeated non-remunerated blood donations. He added, “Recruiting and retaining young donors not only improves country’s blood supply, but also promotes healthy life styles in them. Young people unable to donate for any reason can volunteer their services as advocates for voluntary donation. World Blood Donor Day is a good opportunity for all of us to thank the voluntary donors for the gift of life.” Shri Azad said that recipients of blood are not interested to know about the sex, cast, economic status & religion of the donor and exhorted everyone to donate blood as it shall bring harmony in the Society. |

Shri Azad inaugurated the upgraded Model Blood Bank of the Indian Red Cross Society. He praised the facilities and ambiance that have been created in this one of the most outstanding Blood Banks in the country. Dr. S. P. Agarwal, Secretary General, IRCS informed that the Society collects 85 % blood from voluntary donors and aims to achieve 100 % blood from voluntary donors. He added,” Latest equipments such as automatic elisa & serology processor, cold-room to store 2000 units of whole blood at 4ºC, storage of 5000 units of frozen plasma at -40ºC, equipments for component . |

Secretary, Deptt. of AIDS Control and DG, NACO Shri K Chandramauli said that this day makes people awakes of the importance of blood donation and motivates more and more individuals to donate blood regularly. He further said we must thank all those who voluntarily donate their blood without any reward. NACO also handed over a blood transportation van to the IRCS on the occasion. |
