Indian Red Cross Society and its first-aid and ambulance wing, St. John Ambulance, deployed 60 volunteers and six ambulances, post the terror hit busy marketplaces in Delhi on Saturday, September 13th, 2008, that claimed around 30 lives and injured about 90 people in five blasts across Karol Bagh, Connaught Place and Greater Kailash.
Right after the blasts, the control room at the blood Bank of the National Headquarters was activated. Message for availability of blood was flashed in the electronic media. On Saturday night 100 donors walked in and donated blood.
Thanking the donors, Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Agarwal, Secretary General of Indian Red Cross Society said “IRCS is grateful to all the donors to help meet blood requirements of blast victims”.
