It has been reported that up to 1 million people are living out in the open since the tornado ripped through impoverished villages in seven districts of Bihar on 13th of April which killed over 135 people. Tens of thousands of homes are flattened and the infrastructure of two of the worst affected districts, namely Araria and Pumia, has been badly damaged. Communication and power supplies are still being restored.
Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society & the Minister for Health & Family Welfare today flagged off relief supplies to assist the people affected by the tornado.

Flagging off the fleet of trucks he stated that the relief material contains 2000 family packs having bed sheets, cotton blankets, dhotis, saris, utensils etc. which are being sent to help the affected people. The family packs are expected to cater to the needs of about 10,000 persons. Besides, 200 rolls of tarpaulin sheets to provide temporary shelter for the families are also being sent. The total cost of the relief items is about Rs.50:00 lakhs |
