Indian Red Cross responds to the Flood Fury

A meeting was convened today at the National Headquarters to review the flood situation in the country and share Indian Red Cross action in the flood affected States particularly Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. Representatives from the IFRC, ICRC and Partner National Societies working in India attended the meeting.

Opening the meeting, Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Agarwal, Secretary General, Indian Red Cross Society stated "We are talking to the States affected by the flood everyday and are closely monitoring the situation. The State Branches have been mobilizing resources locally which are being supplemented by the National Headquarters". He also said that "All we need to do is to put our maximum efforts in reaching out to the affected people, thereby increasing the number of beneficiaries".

An update on Indian Red Cross action

For Assam, the National Headquarter (NHQ) has decided to release relief items such as bed sheets, sarees, dhotis, kitchen sets, mosquito nets, blankets, cotton towels and plastic buckets, 2000 pieces each valued at Rs. 23, 94,000 for distribution. On request from the State Branch, Rs. 2.5 lakh has been sanctioned by the NHQ to meet the mitigation, administrative and transportation and logistic expenses.
For Andhra Pradesh, National Headquarter (NHQ) of IRCS has decided to release relief items such as bed sheets, sarees, dhotis, kitchen sets, mosquito nets and plastic buckets, 2000 pieces each, amounting to Rs. 20, 90,000 for distribution.
