Sir Nicholas Young visits the IRCS

British Red Cross Chief Executive, Sir Nicholas Young visited the Indian Red Cross Society on July 26th 2007 and met the HOD's of PNS, IFRC and senior staff of Indian Red Cross Society. In the meeting held at IRCS, NHQ to felicitate him, he said “Britain and India have a deep historical relationship. He also said that we as Red Cross members should strive hard to keep its reputation as we are watched by the government, media and by our own countrymen.

Sir Nicholas Young has been actively involved in the voluntary sector and has made commendable contribution to the Red Cross movement. He started his career as a commercial solicitor and prior to re-joining the Red Cross in 2001, he was the Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Relief. Presently, he is a trustee of the Disaster Emergency Committee and Monte San Martino Trust. He was knighted in the year 2000 for services in the field of cancer care.

British Red Cross and Indian Red Cross Society cooperation programmes includes HIV Programme in Uttar Pradesh, Disaster Preparedness and Response Programme in a few States (presently Assam, Bihar & Rajasthan) and Documentation Case Study – DM Orissa.

Sir Young made field trips to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to have first hand information on site about the Disaster Risk Reduction and Youth Peer Education Programme to combat HIV/AIDS. He expressed his progress and assured British Red Cross's fullest cooperation to the Indian Red Cross Society
