TB Project India- Review Meeting, 18th March, 2014
The Indian Red Cross Society started the TB Project India in 2009 in 3 states. The project is being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, State health department and TB Association of India with the aim to increase community awareness on TB, MDR-TB, XDR-TB and TB/HIV through advocacy, social mobilization and dissemination of IEC materials, in addition to advocating against stigmatization and discrimination of TB patients.

First Medical Responders (FMR) Training Programme launched in Bhaderwah, Jammu & Kashmir
The place was Bhaderwah in Doda district of Jammu & Kashmir, and the event was the inauguration of the FMR training module of the Indian Red Cross Society on the 16th of November 2013. A total of 6 water sanitation units have been mobilized to supply clean water to the affected residents, of which 4 units have the capacity of providing 2000 litres of potable water per hour and 2 units have the capacity of providing 80 litres of water per hour.

Indian Red Cross Society has implemented the Tuberculosis Project India in 4 states namely Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab & Gujarat encouraging Cat II patients for adherence to treatment. IRCS had achieved 90% adherence along with complete treatment of CAT II patients in 2010 and 92.69% in 2011 under the inspiring leadership of Dr (Prof) S.P Agarwal. We also espouse anti-stigma, encourage awareness campaigns to advocate healthy living and allegiance to treatment.

Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana State Branch celebrated the spirit of volunteerism to commemorate the International Volunteers Day (5th Dec, 2011) on 20th and 21st December 2011 at Kurukshetra.
This year marked thetenth anniversary of the ‘International Year of the Volunteers’ as designated by the International Federation of the Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies. Celebrations of this event were aimed at recognizing the persistent efforts of the Indian Red Cross Volunteers to serve humanity as well as reaching out to the vulnerable communities in times of disaster and other community development or welfare programs. Indian Red Cross Society has implemented the Tuberculosis Project India in 4 states namely Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab & Gujarat encouraging Cat II patients for adherence to treatment. IRCS had achieved 90% adherence along with complete treatment of CAT II patients in 2010 and 92.69% in 2011 under the inspiring leadership of Dr (Prof) S.P Agarwal. We also espouse anti-stigma, encourage awareness campaigns to advocate healthy living and allegiance to treatment.

An Earthquake measuring magnitude 9.0(revised from 8.9) hit Japan on 11th March 2011. The earthquake caused extensive human casualty as well as infrastructure damage in many areas. Sikkim earthquake relief - Operations update

Background
Following earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale that severely damaged the infrastructure in Sikkim, the Indian Red Cross Society  (IRCS)  deployed   members   of  their national disaster response team (NDRT) and national disaster water and sanitation response team (NDWRT) along with one water purification unit and non-food items in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, these non-food items and water purification units were sent to Sikkim by Air force aircraft on 21 September 2011 as part of the immediate response. Terrorist attack in Delhi

A powerful bomb blast at gate no 5 of the Delhi High Court killed 10 people. The number of injured was 75 as there were queues of people at the reception counter of the court for obtaining passes for entry in to the court premises. HIV Consortium

Indian Red Cross Society held its 10th Red Cross HIV/AIDS Consortium meeting on 6th July 2011. The consortium was constituted in the year 2006 under the Chairmanship of Dr. S.P. Agarwal, Secretary General of the Society. Several National Societies, the ICRC and the IFRC have been members of this consortium.

On 11th March at 02:46 pm a huge earthquake of magnitude 9.0 on the Richter scale struck off the cost of Sanriku(lat. 38.0 N, long. 142.9 E). The quake reached level 7 on the Japanese seismic scale – the highest level possible for the scale – in the most affected area.  A tsunami alert was immediately issued for the Pacific side of the whole Japanese archipelago.  The first wave of the tsunami reached the Japanese coast within 30 minutes and swept its north-eastern coastline over an area extending for 500 km.  The height of the waves exceeded 15 meters in some areas. Report on AIDS day
December 2010 at its  premises in the presence of  IRCS officials, National Programme Officer NACO, and Delegates from the International Federation, ICRC and the Partner National Societies. Observance of World Aids Day was started on 1st December 1988 with the objective to promote awareness, fight prejudice and strongly condemn stigmatization. “Status of Branches of Indian Red Cross Society setup under Indian Red Cross Society Act  1970 – whether they exist as a  separate legal person” – Clarification  by CBDT
Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Revenue, Ministry of finance has issued a clarification on 24th September 2010 in respect of the status of the IRCS branches set up under the IRCS Act of 1920.
It has been clarified that the Head Office and the branches are to be treated as distinct and separate entities for the purpose of the Income Tax Act 1961. More

IRCS Expresses Gratitude to its Blood Donors

IRCS Responds To Bihar Floods

Prof. (Dr) S.P. Agarwal, Secretary General, IRCS has informed that the emergency operations centre at National Headquarters, New Delhii and at Bihar State branch Patna have been functioning round the clock to monitor the flood situation and coordinate rescue and relief efforts. The National Headquarters has sanctioned the third consignment of relief items comprising of tarpaulin sheets (1,000), family packs (10,000) and tents (300), which would soon be reaching the flood affected areas. Deadly blasts rock Ahmedabad & Bangalore- Indian Red Cross Action

A wave of synchronized bomb blasts hit the western Indian city of Ahmedabad within a span of 70 minutes in the evening of July 27th 2008. The blasts killed at least 49 people and wounded more than 114.

The serial blasts occurred barely 24 hours after nine similar explosions rocked the city of Bangalore in the south Indian State of Karnataka, known as the Silicon Valley of India. Two people were killed and six injured in those explosions. More»

Indian Red Cross responds to Jaipur blasts

Seven blasts, one after another, rocked the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan on 13th of May, Tuesday. The blasts that occurred within a span of 12 minutes killed 65 and injured over 200.

The site of the blasts was about 200 metres from the Red Cross Headquarters. It was in the vicinity of a hindu temple of Lord Hanuman, which attracts a large number of devotees on Tuesdays.

It is a manifestation of the fear that climate change is leading to increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events.
